We leant how to draw basic shapes. Today, lets learn how to draw complex objects from simple shapes.
From here on, we will primarily learn through digital art medium as I am really good at it.
I use procreate and apple pencil for the art and I highly recommend them.
Now, Lets get started.
All the things in the nature can be broken down into simple shapes.
Drawing is a great way to express your feelings and emotions. Through your lines, you can portray confidence and character.
Lets take a bird. I found this cute bird and decided to sketch it.
Got this picture from unsplash.com. I highly recommend this sight for royalty free images.. - Click here for the original image.
Now that we found the bird we wanted to draw, pull the opacity down so that you can barely see the outlines and its not obstructing your lines.
As shown above, break it down to basic shapes.
Circle for the head, an oval for the body, a polygon for the wings and a sort of trapezium for the tail.
They don’t have to be exact, but rough guidelines that can help you draw better and faster as you refine the piece.
The next step would be sketching over the shapes making the necessary modifications to suit the silhouette .
For the bird, we need to define the neck on both the sides to make it look more proportional and natural. You can exaggerate it or make it thinner , it all depends on what the character of the bird you want to portray.
Following the polygon we drew earlier for the wings and draw the feathers. Let the moment of your hand be swift. Have the elbow fixed and move the entire fore arm rather than wrist fixed and moving the palm.
Now you have the bird done. reduce the opacity of the layer and trace over it to get the final bird!
If you follow this process, you can draw almost anything you wish. The most important thing is training your eyes to see shapes in everything.
The best way to do this is download images of things you want to draw and reduce the opacity and break them down into shapes .
Here are a couple of examples:

Once we are done with the sketching basics, I will take you to the enchanting world of colouring and see how we can colour this bird like this.
I always use this process when I draw characters be it human or animals.
